Road Racing Star Stephen Sambu and Top U.S. Marathoner Kellyn Taylor Headline Deep Fields at 2018 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler
Top international field expected to compete for prize purse of $26,200 on Sunday, November 4

PITTSBURGH (October 23, 2018) – Kenya’s Stephen Sambu and top U.S. marathoner Kellyn Taylor will headline the professional athlete fields at the sixth annual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. Scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4, the race offers a $26,200 prize purse, including $4,000 for each race champion and American-only bonuses totaling $5,200.

Earlier this year, Taylor won the Grandma’s Marathon in 2:24:28 and became the 7th fastest U.S. women's marathoner of all time. She also recently set a 10-mile personal best of 54:16 and finished fourth at the USA 10 Mile Championship. She will face tough competition from Ethiopian Gotytom Gebreslase and Kenyan Monicah Ngige, who finished in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, at the 2017 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler.

“I've had a fun summer and fall of racing since my marathon. I’m really looking forward to heading east and taking part in the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler on November 4,” Taylor said. “They always have a top elite field, so I'll be ready to compete. If you haven’t already signed up for the race, come join me at this year’s event."

On the men’s side, Sambu is ready to test his speed on this year’s new course, which now goes past Pittsburgh’s iconic sports stadiums Heinz Field and PNC Park. Sambu achieved an 8K world best of 22:01 en route to a victory at the 2014 B.A.A. 10K. The Kenyan is also the four-time winner of the Falmouth Road Race and three-time winner of the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle.

"I am feeling ready and confident, and that's what is needed for winning,” Sambu said about his Pittsburgh debut. He will compete against defending champion and fellow Kenyan Panuel Mkungo, who finished last year’s race in 47:03. Also joining them in this year’s field is Dominic Korir of Kenya, who has 10-mile personal best of 46:45, and local runner Jim Spisak, who recently won the 2018 Richard S. Caligiuri City of Pittsburgh Great Race.

Don’t miss your chance to toe the start line and run alongside these headliners and other elite athletes during Pittsburgh’s favorite fall road race.
