Course Record Holders Buze Diriba and Tyler Pennel Return for the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler

The PRRO Championship race, scheduled for Sunday, November 5, offers prize purse of $26,200,
including $5,200 U.S.-only bonus money;
top international field expected in the City of Champions

PITTSBURGH – EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler course record holders Buze Diriba and Tyler Pennel will headline the professional athlete fields at the fifth annual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. The PRRO Championship race, scheduled for Sunday, November 5, offers a $26,200 prize, including $4000 for each race champion and American-only bonuses totaling $5200.

Last year in the City of Champions, Diriba, 23, of Ethiopia broke her own event record with a time of 51 minutes, 38 seconds, the second fastest women’s 10 mile road time ever recorded on U.S. soil and fastest 10 mile ever run by a 22-year-old woman in world history. This year she will face tough competition from 2017 Boilermaker 15K Champion Mary Wacera and 6th place finisher Gotytom Gebreslase

Training is going very well for me,” Diriba said. “Pittsburgh is my favorite place to race, and I ran my personal best here. I'd like to run even faster this year on the course."

Pennel, 29, who won the 2015 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and tied the course record, clocking 46:50, will compete alongside 2017 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Champion Stanley Kebenei and 2017 Boilermaker 15K Champion Silas Kipruto.

When I ran the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler two years ago, I had a great time in a city that I had never visited before,” said Pennel, who trains in Blowing Rock, NC. “The race has fantastic staff, which leads to a smooth and fun race day. The participants are extremely excited to be running and to have a lots of talent up at the front of the race!”

At the 2017 PRRO Championship, the winners of each individual 2016-17 PRRO Circuit events are eligible for the $10,000 PRRO Super Bonus if they win this year’s EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. If the male and female winners of the PRRO Championships have not won any of the events on the current circuit, they will receive $2500 as the PRRO Circuit Champion, in addition to the prize money offered by the host event.  There is also PRRO Event Champion’s Bonus money available tied to the PRRO Championship. The 2016-17 PRRO Circuit showcases world class competition at 4 classic U.S. road races shorter than the marathon: Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile, Lilac Bloomsday 12K, Boilermaker Road Race 15K and EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, who is hosting the PRRO Championship for the first time.
